Eater learns that the Michelin-starred chef Gastón Acurio’s La Mar Cebicheria Peruana has closed in Flatiron across from Madison Square Park. Its equipment, furnishings, and fixtures were sold at auction earlier this week, and while there hasn’t yet been any official announcement regarding the closure or its possible replacement, the site hears “some big names” have already been through to check out the massive, bi-level space that was formerly home to Floyd Cardoz’s Tabla for twelve years. Acurio’s restaurant, which opened in September of 2011, wasn’t a critical hit during its brief life: New York’s Adam Platt admired the pisco cocktails but called out the “weirdly flat, shadowy gloom” of one dining area, while finding fault with high prices and oversauced seafood elsewhere on the menu.
