Looks like that MTV deal was just the beginning of Eddie Huang’s small-screen takeover: Deadline says ABC has ordered a pilot based off Huang’s book, Fresh Off the Boat. Nahnatchka Khan, the person behind Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, will head up the pilot, which will also be executive produced by Jake Kasdan, an executive producer on New Girl, and the director of, well, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, will also serve as EP on this project.

Anyone who’s read Huang’s memoir will not be surprised to learn that Deadline says the show “is set in the ’90s and revolves around a Chinese family that moves to Orlando. (Huang’s real-life family is Taiwanese.)”According to the Deadline report, ABC has made a put pilot commitment, which means the pilot is almost guaranteed to air.

Here’s how Huang celebrated:

This is how ABC closed the deal. @chineseguy88 #FreshOffTheBiatSitcom cc: THE GOD cjaxone couldnt have… http://t.co/4bWe8ilDfd— Eddie Huang (@MrEddieHuang) August 14, 2013
