Over the weekend, AFAR contributing editor David Farley tweeted the rumor that illustrious pizzaiolo Anthony Mangieri “has an NYC project in the works.” Mangieri, you may remember, honed his pie-making skills in New Jersey before opening Una Pizza Napoletana in the East Village, where his compact menu of four Neapolitan pizzas and little else — few toppings, no salads — propelled him to the forefront of the city’s pizza renaissance. His low-key, monklike devotion to his craft made him a popular subject of profiles, and in 2009, Mangieri abruptly sold his New York restaurant to Mathieu Palombino of Motorino and moved to San Francisco, where he opened a new Una Pizza Napoletana, which has been thriving ever since. We’ve reached out to the restaurateur and will let you know what we hear back. [David Farley/Twitter via Eater NY, Related]
