After opening an Upper East Side location last fall, the Il Mulino team is expanding yet again: They’ve taken over the space that housed Parea (and the short-lived Parea Prime) at 36 East 20th Street and will turn it into Trattoria Il Mulino, a more casual version of the Village flagship. “It will be a little lighter, with a crudo bar, pizzas made with organic flour from Naples, and fresh mozzerella made every day,” explains Michael Mazza, Il Mulino’s executive chef. Also expect salt-crusted branzino, orata, lamb steak, and homemade pastas, including various forms of ravioli. The current plan is to open in July. The group is also opening a new South Beach location, which should be open in September.
