Taylor Street’s Urban Union Closes

Eater reports that Urban Union, the Taylor Street Mediterranean/wine-focused restaurant founded by chef Michael Shrader and restaurateur Jason Chan, has closed as of Saturday night. At the time of its opening in early 2012, Urban Union displayed “Founded 1997” on its menu to indicate the length of time that Shrader and Chan had been friends, but the partnership, at least, ended three months later, with Chan exiting the restaurant and Shrader, former chef of Epic, taking it over. Now Urban Union, like Chan’s earlier Butter, has proven to be a relatively quick rise and fall story. Chan, who has been battling cancer, plans to open Juno with former Arami chef B.K. Park in the next few weeks; there is no word from Shrader’s camp. [Eater]
