Now that the fast-food chain has exhausted the possibilities of its far-too-popular Doritos-wrapped tacos, Taco Bell is back in R&D; mode, intent on hatching the next game-changer in the world of junk-food-fused tortillas. A focused food-spotter in Southern California reports that the Tex-Mex chain is now thinking waaay outside the bun, reporting and documenting the appearance of a new waffle-wrapped breakfast taco at a Santa Ana location.

Giving a simultaneous run for the money to waffle-wrapped sandwiches from Jack in the Box and Dunkin’ Donuts, Taco Bell’s new test-monster involves a base of sausage topped with scrambled eggs, folded over with a waffle, and served with packets of syrup.

Perhaps it’s needless to point this out, but the Bell’s fervent fan base is endowing this sighting with the same significance most of us reserve for our first glimpse of a unicorn. So, you know, this taco will probably be a huge hit, too.
