Stella Barra, Lettuce Entertain You’s sequel to Santa Monica’s Stella Rossa, soft-opens tonight and grand-opens tomorrow on Sunset Blvd. This sister restaurant finds Fat Duck vet, The Taste competitor, and Rossa chef Jeff Mahin in the kitchen, offering expanded breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus with bread made in house, organic meatballs, and pastas by hand. Mahin also serves a short selection of thin-crust pizza and red and white pies, among a few Rossa recipes tweaked to work without the original location’s wood-burning grill. The 120-seat restaurant also goes bigger on the brand’s rustic glamour, with a bar of barn wood incandescent in back-glow, wicker baskets hanging from rough ropes as chandeliers, and a long, low rectangle of an open kitchen squeezed between exposed bricks and reclaimed wood.
