
Sparrow Bar and Kitchen, which we first brought you word of back in January, is getting set to debut this month in the former Bia’s space at 1640 Haight Street. The official word on the opening date right now is “mid-May,” or “soon as we can!” But given the inevitability of last-minute complications and the fact that owners Marc and Veronica Lopez are first-time restaurateurs, there could be a delay. As we learned earlier, the couple are upstairs tenants of the building where Bia’s used to live, and were lying in wait for the day it might close and they could take it over. Expect to see a renovated deck out back, a glossy new dining bar (pictured), and plenty of reclaimed wood. And food-wise, their goal is to present “modern American cuisine that celebrates the social values, cultural diversity and wild history of the Haight-Ashbury; food that is comforting yet intelligent in substance.” Below, a sample dinner menu to tide you over.
