In November, we heard that Union Square Hospitality Group’s ever-expanding Shake Shack had settled on a space for its first Chicago location. The hamburger and frozen custard chain was rumored to be replacing the old Harley Davidson gift shop at the corner of East Ohio and North Rush. That being a tourist-friendly area, but also the retail space’s proximity to the incoming Eataly, strongly reminded us of the relative positions of Danny Meyer’s New York City hamburger flagship and the Italian megamarket that opened just down the street from Madison Square Park in 2010. Last November, the restaurant group’s representatives told Grub Street they had no news to report, but today Eater Chicago reports it’s received basic and official confirmation that the chain is indeed headed for Chicago. No other details are yet available, but we’ll fill you in as soon as we hear more. [Eater Chicago, Earlier]
