Tragedy struck the kitchen at Greens Restaurant this week when head chef John Paul Ueber died in a car accident on I-280 Tuesday morning. He was on his way back to the city after dropping his fiancée off at work, as Bay City News reports, when his Honda SUV struck the center divide ear the intersection with Highway 1. Ueber, 32, was a San Francisco native who had been at Greens for ten years, starting as an extern. And though not a vegetarian himself, executive chef Annie Somerville says that “he thought like a vegetarian,” and “was great at teaching people to be efficient.” The restaurant remains open, and Somerville says, “Everyone is stepping up as he would wish us to do.” [BCN/SF Appeal]
