Marvin Gapultos, the L.A. local exploring Filipino food through his blog, Burnt Lumpia, and in a brief stint from The Manila Machine, the lauded food truck he co-founded with Nastassia Johnson, released a cookbook yesterday called The Adobo Road Cookbook: A Filipino Food Journey. The product of two years of hard work, with the intention of preserving family and roadside recipes, Adobo Road offers 99 recipes broken down into starters and bar snacks, noodles and soups, authentic and modern entrees including sinigang, lumpia, and pinakbet, as well as an assortment of adobos, vintage cocktails, and sweet stuff. The $19.95 book was already released in Asia, and is now available to a U.S. audience through Amazon. On May 23, Gapultos will host a release party at Max’s of Manila in City of Industry, with food from the book and a talk by Gapultos, with a small number of public tickets available at the door ($30 buys admission plus the book, $20 without it) and proceeds going to FilAmArts.Until then, check out this video in which Gapultos dishes on his background and offers a peek inside his first recipe collection.
