Everybody talks about food deserts; Growing Home is an organization that is doing something visible about one, turning vacant lots in Englewood into covered growing space which provides organic food and jobs and job training to area residents. Their Wood Street Urban Farm produced over 13,000 pounds of USDA Certified Organic Produce last year; now they’re trying to get a second location, on Honore Street, up to the same level. It has one hoophouse, but they’re trying to add a second one and are raising $20,000 on Kickstarter to build it. Watch their video about the project below, and if you like what you see, find out more and make a pledge here.
