There’s a wine dinner at La Sirena Clandestina on Tuesday. Okay, there’s a wine dinner somewhere most nights. But not like this one. The winemaker is Abe Schoener, who has a winery called The Scholium Project. Note that this does not sound like a permanent building or vineyard, because it doesn’t have either one. As this New York Times article describes, Schoener’s “project” is to lease curious bits of land that he thinks have the potential to make wine like nothing else on earth, and make them. And then… he goes on the road, with what the former classics teacher calls “a metaphysical lecture series,” in which his wines get poured alongside topics such as “Wine and Mortality.” (Did we mention that “Scholium” means “school”?) So this is the kind of wine dinner that is coming to La Sirena Clandestina on Tuesday: it starts with a metaphysical wine seminar at Cream Wine Tasting Room (1035 W. Lake Street) and then moves to La Sirena Clandestina for a four-course dinner with tastings of four of Schoener’s incredibly high-in-demand wines. The menu is below; the price is $100 plus tax and tip, and you want to call 312-730-6393 before the very limited seating is all gone.
