The last of Brooklyn’s longshoremen bars was flooded and shut down during Hurricane Sandy and dismantled in the aftermath. While Sunny’s already had a very successful Kickstarter campaign, bigger fixes loom and the renowned Red Hook establishment still needs to fix its damaged basement before it can reopen. Gothamist brings news of a benefit taking place at the Bell House on May Day, which will kick off one last fund-raising push, at the end of which the bar on Conover Street will once again put beer on ice. Co-owner Tone Johansen will dole out snacks to regulars, and the musicians will warm up. Sunny’s has just joined Twitter, where you can follow its progress. [Gothamist, Ticketweb, Earlier]
