Sonny’s Hideaway, a new restaurant coming to Highland Park, plans to open its doors to York Blvd. on April 26. Coming from first-time owner Derek Lyons, Sonny’s will overtake the address that formerly housed Marty’s, HPK, and Cafe Lobos, with ownership reworking the space into a dual-sided “vintage American” design that features red booths and dark woods in a dining room, and a separate bar with the familiar feel of industrial elements. Patch places chef Jimmy Everett (which we can only hope is the Michael White vet of the same name) in the kitchen, heading up a menu of comfort cuisine that may include stuff some diners still aren’t totally comfortable with like fried sweetbreads, bone marrow hash, and coffee-rubbed pork cheeks. Everett’s New American menu will be backed by beer, wine, and craft cocktails under bar manager John Kelly O’Hare and Lyons says the restaurant is coming together with input from the community, noting that the address has proven unlucky before.
