Today is opening day for the new Exploratorium on Pier 15, and with it Loretta Keller’s Seaglass restaurant. The space boasts pretty views of the bay, a full cocktail bar, a raw bar overseen by sushi master Sachio Kojima (onetime chef-owner of Kabuto Sushi A&S;), and large-scale versions of the Icy Bodies and Thermal Mixing exhibits that designer Olle Lundberg incorporated into the interior. The set-up is cafeteria-style but without trays, and with both indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to sushi, Seafood Watch-approved seafood, and more adventurous stuff like Japanese pickles and kimchi, there is a rotisserie chicken station, a pizza station, tacos, quesadillas, and a Welsh rarebit version of grilled cheese. Also: Keller’s signature batter-fried green beans.

For those who don’t want the whole sit-down experience, the museum has a café as well, The Seismic Joint, with to-go sandwiches and salads, coffee, and baked goods.

Seaglass is primarily going to be a family-friendly affair, with the museum’s bread and butter of course being families with children. But the place will be open one night a week, Thursdays, for adults only.

Seaglass - The Exploratorium, Pier 15 on the Embarcadero - Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays. Open Thursday evenings for adults only from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
