Sayuri Tachibe, the wife of Chaya and M Cafe executive chef Shigeumi Tachibe, is taking over Pasadena’s Shaab restaurant to open a new Japanese concept called Osawa. Shaab shuttered on April 1, and now this space in between Slater’s 50/50 and the Chado Tea Room on Raymond Avenue is currently being remodeled. The concept, with a menu centered on shabu shabu and sushi, with additional, assorted izakaya dishes, will not veer too wildly from what Shaab was doing, but hopefully Tachibe will improve on the food and service. Her plan is to open the place sometime before Pasadena Restaurant Week begins, with an opening potentially as near as next week depending on construction.

Osawa, 77 N. Raymond Ave. Pasadena.
