Closings

Rio Grande to End Its Temporary Stay at the Renoir Hotel on Monday

It looks like things at the Renoir Hotel may be about to change as the Bon Vivants announce that Rio Grande (1108 Market Street at 7th) is closing. The bar came to life as a temporary project last June, as part of A Temporary Offering, an effort to liven the street-level businesses at the hotel for a younger, hipper audience while final plans for the hotel’s revamp were solidified. The new owners of the hotel, the L.A.-based Kor Group, are planning to transform the place into a boutique hotel of some sort, perhaps along the lines of the Viceroy, also owned by developer Brad Korzen. Korzen’s wife is the well known designer Kelly Wearstler, and it’s thought that she’ll be working on the new design of the unnamed hotel.

The Bon Vivants team of Scott Baird and Josh Harris has gone on to open the already popular Trick Dog, and they post on Facebook today that they’re saddened to have to close Rio Grande so soon. It had become a popular bar industry hangout, and as such their big final blowout will be on a Monday, April 8. Also, there will be partying tonight and Friday, and bartender Russell Davis says, “I need everyone to come out and let’s do this with a bang.”

There’s no word yet what will become of the little Trailhead boutique at the triangular tip of the building, with its Farm.Table coffee bar. FoodLab, the pop-up venue in the restaurant space next door to Rio Grande, closed up shop on December 31.

We’re reaching out to Kor, and we’ll update you as soon as we hear back from the team about what you can expect to see in the bar and restaurant spaces.
