A year ago, Moscato started trending among U.S. wine drinkers, thanks in large part to its increasingly prominent role in hip-hop. Basically, it’s the new Cristal — and, luckily, much cheaper! And some new figures released this week by the California-based Wine Institute show just how big the fizzy, sweet, low-alcohol wine has gotten: It now accounts for a 6 percent market share at retail outlets, just behind Pinot Grigio. Decanter reports that the growth of Moscato drinking helped overall domestic wine sales grow by 2 percent. To celebrate: five of the best Moscato callouts of the last few years.
