If this Saturday’s Taco Madness event or The L.A. Times’ Festival of Books doesn’t already have your schedule set for the weekend, The Grilled Cheese Invitational is returning for its eleventh year to Downtown L.A. Started in the loft of founder Tim Walker, the culinary competition is a grand affair today, bringing together chefs and ambitious amateurs to vie for victory with their craziest take on the classic sandwich and the inclusion of several vendors who will sell ooey-gooey, melty creations of their own.
Being held from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Center Studios on April 20, the event’s $12-15 ticket price buys guests entry, live music from a group called Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine, cooking demos, a beer garden, free samples, wacky outfits, cheese-calling and eating competitions, and vendors like Grilled Cheese Truck (a sponsor of the event), Elbows Mac and Cheese, and Oaks Gourmet. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
