As we discovered a few weeks back, cabaret star Michael Feinstein is set to open a San Francisco branch of his popular New York club Feinstein’s in the Hotel Nikko — in the 140-seat space formerly occupied by the Rrazz Room. Today we receive the official word on the opening date, May 8, and tickets are now on sale for the inaugural week of shows by Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster (Anything Goes, The Drowsy Chaperone). The lineup for the opening month is in a somewhat similar vein to what you’d see at the Rrazz in years past, with aging Hollywood stars (Mitzi Gaynor), aging Broadway divas (Ann Hampton Callaway, Barbara Cook), and the like. But as frequent Rrazz performer J. Conrad Frank notes today, the ticket prices of $75 to $95 are quite “expensive for S.F.”
Find tickets here, and note that all the ticket prices include a $30 food and beverage credit to be spent either in the showroom, or in Anzu, the restaurant upstairs — this seems to be a new alternative to doing a two-drink minimum in the venue on top of the ticket price, and explains the price hike.
Feinstein himself says it’s “exciting beyond words” to be bringing the club to San Francisco, and he adds, “My career as an entertainer began [here], and it presents special and profound meaning to be a part of such an amazing and special city.”
Meanwhile, there’ll be less competition amongst the niche audience of cabaret-goers as we learned last week that Live at the Rrazz is gone for good.
