Amid all of the excitement over news that Din Tai Fung is coming to Glendale’s Americana at Brand this fall, we seem to have missed another big pending expansion for Frank Yang’s xiao long bao destination. According to Arcadia’s Best, the restaurant will follow its opening at Brand with the debut of its first O.C. location at South Coast Plaza. This 8,000 square-foot location isn’t going to debut until 2014, but still bodes well for the future of Southern California’s malls now that Yang senses the sweet of further success in expanding his always packed dumpling house to the region’s shopping centers. And speaking of success, it appears that Tom Cruise stopped by the original location in Taipei earlier this month to learn how to make soup dumplings from the owner himself during a junket for Oblivion. Tom Cruise can do just about anything, right? Take a look at this video below to see if that extends to making good Chinese food.
