Back in December, Eater spied a restaurant called Girasol coming to Studio City, with plans to replace 8 1/2 Taverna with a seasonally-driven menu. It appears that Chris “C.J.” Jacobson, the tallest of the Top Chef-testants, is going to be the restaurant’s opening chef, telling L.A. Confidential, “I’m just at The Mercantile until that gets going.” The restaurant was originally expected to open in January before getting pushed back to a March debut that has itself been pushed back again. Once open, Jacobson may not be there forever however, as he is also brewing up a new restaurant with Mercantile owner George Abou-Daoud. According to Jacobson, the two “plan on opening a place in the next coming year or so,” expressing confidence in the owner’s palate as well as his previous seven openings in L.A.
