L.A. is again waltzing with the fuzz of fizzy drinks as local Councilman Bernard Parks pushes a motion to make the LAPD crack down on the sale of energy drinks to kids. The former LAPD chief wants to see warning labels put on drinks like Monster, which was recently revealed to have more caffeine than it states on the can, as well as to see them placed on shelves away from the wee little arms of children and limit how many a customer can buy. Parks doesn’t cite any specific behavioral problems stemming from the glut of caffeinated sodas, but an FDA investigation is currently ongoing into five possible deaths linked to Monster last year. Of course, not everyone feels the panic is appropriate just yet. When asked of Park’s motion to clamp down on the energy drinks, South L.A. resident Wayne Clinton tells NBC, “What a waste of time. There’s so many other things that need to be done…Look across the way – you got alleys that need cleaned up.”
