As he winds down his Top 100 update tour, Michael Bauer revisits the restaurant that made 18th Street in the Mission what it is, Delfina. He calls out their perennial favorite dishes, like the roast chicken with mushrooms and mashed potatoes, and the grilled Monterey Bay calamari with white beans, saying they are as good as he remembers. The Cioppino-like cacciucco Livornese he says is a “pleasant surprise,” and he loves a roasted duck with kumquat mostarda, saying it’s “a very interesting dish.” Also, the service is, as always, “at the top of its game — casual but efficient.” All told: three stars, with three and a half for food.
