Mission Public Project Shifts Over to 14th Street

Last year about this time we discussed Mission Public, a low-key gastropub project in the works from Anthony Shuton. Shuton is a Mission resident and first-time restaurateur who’s spent years as a graphic designer, and he first had his eye on a former hair salon space at 1910 Mission Street. That fell through, and today Grub Street finds him leasing the space that was formerly Om Shan Tea at 233 14th Street, between Mission and South Van Ness. (You may recall that Om Shan had to close last fall when its owner ran afoul of the DEA, via a healthy trade in psychedelics, and was sent to prison.) Shuton says Mission Public will be a “change of pace,” and he wants to create a pub environment where the music is low and “where you can talk to your friends.” There will be beer and wine, and a food menu that’s TBA. Construction is underway. We’ll update you with an ETA when the time comes. [Earlier]
