Lillie’s Q Destroyed in Fire Last Night [Updated]

Popular Bucktown barbecue spot Lillie’s Q was destroyed by a fire that started in its basement around midnight. Fire crews blocked off Wood street to fight the fire, which lasted until around 1 a.m. Ironically, at this point the fire reportedly appears to have been caused not by any barbecue-related equipment, but by a water heater. The restaurant reports that damage was “significant” (clarifying earlier reports which said “total”) and both the Bucktown restaurant and its satellite operation at the French Market (which relied on the smokers at the restaurant) will be closed indefinitely.

Update: Tweeted statement from Lillie’s Q:

We come to all of you with heavy hearts this morning. Last night after our Bucktown restaurant closed, a fire broke out in our basement. The fire started from a hot water heater down in the basement. There’s been significant fire damage to the restaurant and to the apartments upstairs. Thankfully nobody was injured in the restaurant or in the apartments upstairs. Our Bucktown location and our Chicago French Market location are closed indefinitely. We’re so grateful for all the outpouring of support from everyone. We’ll be back somewhere, somehow, and someway.
