Food Is the New Rock

All About BottleRock, the Biggest Local Music Fest You’ve Never Heard Of

Coming up the second week in May is BottleRock, a rather huge first-time music and food festival in downtown Napa with a bunch of very high-profile musical acts. But we’re guessing you haven’t heard about it yet, because we barely had, so we thought we’d share some details. The fun goes from May 8 to 12, mostly in and around Napa Valley Expo and headliners include The Avett Brothers, Further, Kings of Leon, The Shins, The Black Keys, and Train. Also, obviously, there will be much wine, with pourers coming from over 40 Napa Valley wineries, and there will be food from a bunch of the Valley’s restaurants, too.

Other well known acts include Jane’s Addiction, Joan Jett, Mavis Staples, the Flaming Lips, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Ben Harper, Alabama Shakes, Cake, Jackson Browne, the Violent Femmes, Dirty Projectors, Sharon Van Etten, Andrew Bird, and Richard Thompson.

Still not sold? Well, there are still four-, three-, and one-day tickets left ($139-$399), and the shows will span four different stages at the Expo as well as 30 other “after-party” venues around downtown Napa. Also, there’s a comedy stage that the organizers see as a “recharging station” between sets, with headliners like Jim Gaffigan, Demetri Martin, Aasif Mandvi, Anthony Jeselnik, Tig Notaro, Jim Breuer, and Greg Behrendt. Check out the full schedule here.

And, never forget: Food is the new rock.
