A year ago we were contacted— as no doubt numerous other food writers were— by a producer for Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods about possible subjects for an upcoming Chicago episode. We had to break the news that one subject that they were interested in was actually our April Fool’s joke, but suggested some others, including EL Ideas and Birrieria Zaragoza, which we recommended over another Mexican place they were interested in, one, because we think it’s cooler, and two, because the Zaragozas speak better English, which matters on TV. In the end, we’re sure we weren’t the only ones to recommend either one, but we’re delighted to see that they’re both going to be included on the episode which debuts tonight, along with Paul Kahan, Rodrick Markus, Supreme Lobster (another old video subject of ours) and other cool food things about our city.
