The 45-year-old former barber who took fifteen patrons at Bar Veloce hostage in June of 2002 by brandishing an assortment of guns, a samurai sword, and a squirt bottle filled with kerosene has been sentenced to 240 years in jail, the AP reports. Steve Johnson, who has stood trial three times, targeted the bar’s patrons because they were white; last month, a jury rejected his insanity defense and found him guilty of attempted murder, kidnapping, and hate crimes.
