The crew behind City Tap House, The Field House, Public House and a ton of other restaurants and bars up and down the East Coast are getting Pennsylvania 6 ready for a March debut. It’s coming together at 114 South 12th Street, a property that’s seen a fair share of restaurants come and go over the years. Most recently it was Tweed, whose owners pulled the plug in the middle of the night, and took off with just about everything except the four walls on their way out. The concept, which a rep for the project tells Grub is a throwback to the 1930s, appears to be re-purposed from a restaurant of the same name that the owners opened in Midtown Manhattan earlier this week*. It pays homage to the legendary tune cut by the Glen Miller Orchestra in 1940 that celebrated Hotel Pennsylvania, and its phone number, PE6-5000.

Like it’s sister establishment, the two-story, 80-seat spot will sport red, button-tufted leather banquettes, white subway-tiled floors, antique mirrors, and white marble-topped tables and bars. The second floor will feature large photos of famous faces from the 1940’s and 1950’s, including Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall and Marlon Brando.

French-born and Kentucky-raised Marc Plessis, who last presided over XIX at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, is heading the kitchen. His menu is going to feature a mix of interesting appetizers, burgers, and flatbreads, while more sophisticated meat and seafood dishes will be offered as entrees. A large raw bar will have a daily selection of up to 12 varieties of oysters, as well as shrimp, lobster and other shellfish cocktails.

The exact opening date and menu haven’t been finalized yet. Stay tuned for updates.
