Answering the demand of L.A.’s Peruvian community, Eric Garcetti is introducing a motion that would designate the Hollywood blocks of Vine Street in between Sunset and Melrose as “Peru Village,” home to four Peruvian restaurants, including local favorites like Balcones del Peru, Mario’s, and El Dorado. Supporters envision the area growing to include businesses that promote the culture, of which there are few more powerful examples than those serving food, while Garcetti tells The L.A. Times, “I don’t think people want a city that’s a soup where you mix it all together and you can’t taste any of them. I think they want distinct flavors and places with character.” [LAT]
