OMG, the Southern Plantation look is totally in right now, you guys. That’s something we never thought we’d be writing, but lo, the South is rising again in L.A. First there was that Roscoe’s location coming to Anaheim with its own plantation look, then Sassafrass came a-shuckin’ onto the scene, and now Thrillist introduces us to Spoonful, a bar and restaurant themed after a Georgia plantation that grand-opened last night in Studio City.

The vittles, executed by executive chef Victor Calderone and crew, features such attempts at hillbilly haute as cornmeal-crusted fried green tomatoes with spicy remoulade and Gulf shrimp with grits, along with the expected burgers, po-boys, fried chicken, pulled pork sliders (with three sauce styles repping Georgia and the different Carolinas), and fruit cobbler.

In terms of hooch, there is a mix of classic and contemporary cocktails, craft beer on tap, and a sufficient selection of whiskey, bourbon, and rye to help you summon the courage to start kissing people’s grits. Spoonful is currently open daily for dinner at 4:00 P.M., with lunch to be added after the holidays.
