Spats, in better days.
Spats (1974 Shattuck Avenue), the long-loved, natty-around-the-edges pub at the edge of the UC Berkeley campus, has been closed and gathering dust for three years. But this a.m. we find a longtime part-owners Cynthia and Phillip Taw finally putting in for a new liquor license for the place, minus previous owners Edith and Fong Jung. The place was on the market a year ago and possibly did not sell, and we’re not sure what this means in terms of a reopening timeline, but stay tuned.
