World’s Oddest Food Museums; Brasserie Pushkin’s Owner Planning a Big-Box New Restaurant

• The Spam Museum, a ramen “food amusement park” in Japan, and an entire German museum dedicated to asparagus are a few of the “Oddest Food Museums,” a list that appears in the latest edition of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2013. [Lonely Planet]

• Jonathan Waxman (of Barbuto) curates an autumnal dinner at Rosa Mexicano. The California native will present ways of combining traditional Mexican ingredients with traditional American fall dishes, like ancho chile pumpkin cheesecake, and wild mushroom and chorizo salad with butternut squash. • Specialty grilled cheesers Little Muenster will offer a Halloween combo from October 27 to 31: Asiago, Parmesan, Butternut Squash, Sage Brown Butter sandwich, a side of tomato soup, and a craft beer for only $15. Swine will host a four-course Pig & Pumpkin dinner, each course paired with a pumpkin craft beer. Plenty for pumpkin lovers. “Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see.” [Grub Street]

• The second annual Speed Rack — an all-female bartending competition — returns to New York and the Santos Party House. On November 4, nineteen local bartenders will mix standard cocktail and be judged on speed and accuracy. $20 buys a ticket, small bites from local restaurants, and sponsored punches and cocktails. Lali Lali Salon and fashion photographer Denis Piel will host a pop-up restaurant in celebration of Piel’s new book, Denis Piel: Moments. The eight-course meal promises dishes made using local, organic farmed and foraged ingredients. Reservations here. [Grub Street]

• Andrei Dellos, owner of the palatial Brasserie Pushkin, signed a lease on a 19,740-square-foot space in Chelsea. Manon will reportedly serve not Russian food but “a mix of modern French, American and pan-Asian styles.” Does this mean the dress code will be Foreign Legion chic? [NYP]
