We first heard about it last year, and there have been some delays, but it looks like nationally expanding upscale Mexican chain Rosa Mexicano will be opening for real on October 24 at 30 Mission Street (at Steuart). They brought on NYC chef Jonathan Waxman in an advisory role, and the menu promises to offer some locally sourced plates and a few dishes custom-designed for the Bay Area audience, as well as signature stuff like guacamole prepared tableside, and their chamorro, a crispy marinated pork shank with red-bean chorizo chili and chipotle creamed spinach. It’s already well under construction, and it’s going to be a pretty huge space, with over 200 seats and a big patio, all at the One Market building.

The chain was founded in Manhattan in 1984 by Josefina Howard, and now has a dozen locations including Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Minneapolis, and Boston.

They’ll be opening with a $55 Fall Harvest Dinner from chef Waxman on October 24.
