Six fires have started inside Magic Chef ovens in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, since 2007 after the unattended appliances switched on. A fire in July left 60 people homeless, while the most recent fire, which occurred on October 2, happened when no one was home. “I’ve turned to the media,” says fire chief David Volk. “I’m really hoping more people will pick up on this and notice the same pattern.” We’re hoping it’s nothing like a fridge full of Gozer, but in any event, someone needs to send Perth Amboy a big box of possessed sprinklers, stat.
