Dîner en Blanc, the traveling potluck picnic deal where everyone is required to wear all white, is arriving back in San Francisco on October 19. The outdoor location is kept secret until the last minute — last year it was in the Music Concourse between the De Young and the Academy of Sciences — and will be sent via email to confirmed guests at 3 p.m. the day of the event. It all adds to the “flash-mob” fun, you see, but unlike those lucky few at this year’s Las Vegas event who got served multiple courses by Top Chef Masters contestants, you will need to BYO everything. Except tables.
Because of the exposure from Top Chef, tickets are technically sold out for the SF event. But you can find some on craigslist (search for “Le Diner”), and this isn’t the type of event that scalpers can get any mark-up on since there are 3000 of these tickets out there. The tickets were $25, and you’ll save the processing fee by finding some last-minute cancelers.
And as the event copy says, “While guests are unified in the spirit of the event, the way they choose to celebrate will be of their own design … There is no ‘right way’ to participate in Le Dîner à San Francisco; there is only a time, a place, and a group of your best friends with which to share the unparalleled experience of this unique event!”
