EMM Group’s ‘Modern Asian’ Bowery Restaurant Will Be Called the General

The vibe is
The vibe is “urban excavation.”

Grub gets word from EMM Group about the restaurant they’re planning for 199 Bowery (different than nightspot Finale, at the same address). The General should open in early December, with a “modern Asian” menu by Catch chef Hung Huynh — expect dishes like firecracker crab claws, kung pao black sea bass, and chili-chicken-stuffed eggplant. The massive 300-seat project from partners Eugene Remm, Mark Birnbaum, and Michael Hirtenstein will have a casual café and more upscale dining room, with a red-and-gold color scheme and decor inspired by “urban excavation,” according to a statement. That explains the current pop art facade from street artist Alec Monopoly, pictured here.
