Ravi DeRossi and his surrogates got a civic lashing last night from CB3 Manhattan’s SLA committee for converting the shuttered Jane’s Sweet Buns pastry shop into the beer bar Proletariat without providing a 30-day notice to the board. After committee chair Alexandra Militano called the shift in business a “ruse,” the board unanimously voted to deny Proletariat’s request for an alteration to lengthen its bar. Before the vote, committee member David McWater told the crowd, “I wouldn’t vote for this alteration if Baby Jesus came down here.”
Meanwhile, the long-delayed Bowery beer hall from German beer titan Paulaner was granted approval, and the owners of Mighty Quinn’s mighty fine emporium of smoked meats, a new restaurant that will be helmed by chef Hugh Mangum, were approved for a liquor license transfer at the old Vandaag space. The restaurant’s owners told Grub Street they will open sometime next month.
