New Restaurant Isn’t Waffling on Waffleability

Remember that guy who had the blog about waffling everything? Whatever happened to him? Oh right, he went to work for the Tribune… where somehow he is not the person who was assigned to write this piece for The Stew about a new restaurant serving waffle sandwiches. We dunno, it’s like the waffle-based equivalent of having Richard Posner on your staff and not having him write about the Supreme Court, but anyway, Bel 50 is a new River North restaurant opening toward the end of the month devoted to sandwiches in waffled, but savory or at least not aggressively sweet, “bread.” There’s no reason why the way a waffle is made can’t be anywhere on the flavor spectrum, so even as it has obvious novelty appeal, we can see that burrata or roasted pork in a hot waffled wrap could be plenty good. Not to mention… fried chicken. [Tribune]
