We broke the news of AQ’s expansion plans the other week, when owner Matt Semmelhack hinted he had two projects in the pipeline in different parts of town. Well, the liquor license has gone in for one, and that is Mélange Market (3153 17th Street at Shotwell), which will be the new café and concession area at ODC Theater, replacing the short-lived Pronto kiosk by Bar Bambino. Semmelhack tells Grub Street that it’s going to be a “market” in the sense that it will sell various items like sandwiches, baked goods, and sweets from different local vendors, but there won’t be produce or anything like that. And there will be some items like salads and other light fare prepared by the AQ kitchen, and stuff from pastry chef Maya Erickson, whose mother is actually on the board at the dance theater. He adds that there will be a weekly changing smoothie special at Mélange with recipes that will come from a recent competition held among AQ staff. They’re aiming for an opening within six or seven months, and will keep regular daytime hours in addition to being open for performance nights. Stay tuned for news about AQ’s other new project, which is still under wraps. [Earlier]
