Michael Bauer reviewed the second location of Turkish restaurant Troya (2125 Fillmore Street) over the weekend, which opened a couple months back in the space formerly and only briefly occupied by Citizen Cake. He makes a point of opening the review by knocking celebrity chef Elizabeth Falkner for her much delayed and short-lived relocation of her restaurant, saying that Troya is “packed” by comparison and that it now feels more “finished” even though the new owners only made “slight adjustments” to the bare, brick-lined space. He loves meze items like the “spicy and salty” meatballs, the zucchini fritters with mint and yogurt, and the grilled halloumi cheese. He also likes the reinvented moussaka, the braised chicken, and the “studied” service. All told: It’s two and a half stars across the board. [Chron]
