Currently serving as the home to Kevin Meehan’s pop-up dinner party, Kali Dining, Sazon Latin Fusion in Culver City is struggling to stay afloat. Owner and chef Claudia Kikui opened her dream project, a pan-Latin restaurant where Argentine empanadas tango with Caribbean mofongo, Peruvian saltado, flan, and chicken mole, four years ago, partially sold on the coming of a built-in clientele at a major mixed use development planned across the street. Unfortunately, the collection of condos and storefronts never materialized, and despite a solid four-star rating on Yelp** and a recently unveiled new look, Kikui is now pleading for support.
The chef writes on the first day of September: “It has gotten very difficult for me to sustain Sazon Latin Fusion and this very well be my last month open. Please drop in and see me sometime this month before we close the doors…It’s very difficult to let go of my dream, but it seems I have no other viable options in this down economy.”
**And yes, they apparently matter.
