After hunting for a space for a year and a half, Il Cane Rosso chef-owner Lauren Kiino has inked a deal for a new restaurant in the former Maya space at 303 Second Street (at Harrison). It will be called Red Dog, and she tells the Scoop the focus will be rustic European and American dishes, along the lines of “farmhouse cooking.” In the good news column, those amazing deviled-ham Scotch eggs Kiino was serving at the Street Food Festival this year will be on the menu. In the bad news column, there’s no opening date set, and a full liquor license still needs to be applied for, so we’re probably looking at a 2013 opening.
Kiino, who previously cooked at Delfina and Coi and later dissolved a partnership with Daniel Patterson, gaining full control over Il Cane Rosso at the Ferry Building, says she’s excited to bring good food and drink to this under-served neighborhood. The space will seat 100 in total, with a 25-seat bar.
Also, there will be a takeout spot next door called Fearless, where Kiino plans to serve “high-quality coffee,” breakfast sandwiches, pastry, and lunch sandwiches for the office workers in the area. The space was previously a Tully’s.
