Here’s the story of some hardworking Canadian pizzeria owners who just want to make an honest go of things but say they’ve been tempted with oodles of American mozzarella illegally smuggled across the border. Cheese in Canada costs three times as much as it does in the States, apparently, and unscrupulous truck drivers are making $1-2k per run to deliver the goods. What’s worse is that authorities suspect the local police are taking a cut from the so-called “mozzarella mafia.” [NPR]
