The new owners of the Eagle Tavern, Mike Leon and Alex Montiel, held a press conference yesterday with Supervisors Jane Kim, David Campos, and Scott Wiener, all of whom helped keep the beloved bar a part of the LGBT community. They’re at work trying to restore the place to “some” of its original glory (much of the original, biker aesthetic was stripped out by the previous owners a year ago), and to revive the well loved back patio as a Sunday beer-bust destination. To help them in completing the repairs to the space, they’re hosting a fundraiser on Sunday, September 23, coinciding with Folsom Street Fair, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. which is likely to draw a large crowd given that the Eagle has long been a traditional end-point for many a Folsom reveler — except this party will be in the parking lot across the street, at 12th and Harrison, and not on the Eagle’s own patio. They’re hoping to reopen the bar sometime around Halloween. [Earlier]
