Uncle’s, the gayborhood mainstay that was pouring cheap, stiff drinks at the corner of Locust and Camac streets back when Elton John was married to a woman, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood was urging everyone to “Relax,” is undergoing top to bottom renovations. Naked Philly reports that the bar, which will reopen soon as the U Bar, has been gutted, and will be rocking new floors, walls, window, bathrooms and more once work there is complete. Also on the to-do list is revamping the seldom used kitchen located in the bar’s basement. Though the bar is getting primped to keep up with the string of newly primped clubs and bars in the immediate vicinity, the owners maintain it will continue to offer guests reasonably-priced drinks.
