The Umamification of L.A. continues, as Adam Fleischman’s “fifth taste” burger regime prepares to take over The Grove this coming Monday, August 6, at 11:00 A.M. The new mall-strapped location, designed with help from Kanner Architects, fits into the colonial two-story structure you see here, with 85 seats in a dining room of preserved blonde woods and backlit glass, and another 100 seats available on a covered patio. That’s not all that’s unique to this Mid-City location.

With every new Umami comes a new, location-exclusive burger, and in Rick Caruso-land, it will be The Grove Truffle Burger, a beef patty topped with a parmesan fondue and truffle sauce. The burger juggernaut will also offer a kid’s menu, as well as new items like Umami hot dogs, Umami chips, and perhaps just to further needle Short Order in The Grove’s brewing burger war, Umami milkshakes.

This will be the twelfth location of the chain, in addition to other Fleischman-funded projects like Red Medicine, 800 Degrees, and Umamicatessen, all of which have opened since the first Umami Burger location took La Brea by storm in 2009. Next, the entrepreneur plans to open Umami-Ko and over in Westwood, Umami-U. And just like that, we suddenly understand the phrase “money never sleeps.”
