A new grab-and-go lunch option just landed at 522 Second Street, right next to South Park, which we noticed taking shape last month. It’s called Small Foods, and it’s a new venture from a pair of architects with offices upstairs, Bruce Slesinger and Tom Collom of BAT. Slesinger tells Grub Street, “We do a lot of retail design, so we figured why not design something for ourselves?” The architects originally had their offices in the ground-floor space now occupied by the store and café, which Slesinger characterizes as, “Sort of a gourmet 7-11, with a small café up front.”
The place doesn’t have a website yet, but they have been up and running for about a week. The menu features soup, sandwiches, and ready-made salads, with a focus on healthy stuff. Shortly they’ll serving beer and wine in the café as well.
Regular hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with weekend hours varying a bit depending on whether there’s a game at AT&T; Park.
Small Foods - 522 Second Street - Open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with later hours on game days.
